About
The Story

The idea behind Mulberry Tree (MT) began through Diana’s work coordinating training opportunities for Persons with Disabilities. During one of these programmes, a young woman with visual impairment shared her experience of trying to join her college theatre team. Her story revealed the discrimination, bullying, and barriers she encountered—not because of her artistic abilities, but because of how others perceived her disability.
Her experience raised a fundamental question: Why should disability be a barrier to participating in the arts?
The encounter resonated deeply with Diana, reminding her of moments in her own life when she had challenged the limitations she felt or believed were placed before her. It became the starting point for a wider vision: creating artistic spaces where disability is not a barrier to participation, creativity, or professional opportunity.
This vision grew into MT, founded to advance inclusive performing arts and create opportunities for artists with and without disabilities to meet, create, and contribute on an equal basis.
